.He would put it all up later after I left for work.“I can do that, but don’t you want to take me and go run around today? The weather is supposed to turn sunny in a little while.” This part always confused me a little. For some reason, and without ever acknowledging it, or me saying anything, he always refused to go outside while it was sunny. He shook his head and pulled me on towards the front door. When we got inside I headed directly to the showers. He stayed in the living room.I had insisted on one thing once I moved in; no joining me in the shower or sex anywhere near work time.We did not seem to know how to have sex for less than four hours. It was insane, and half the time I could hardly keep up, but somehow he always pulled me through it.I showered quickly and put on my uniform.I ran out into the living room, grabbed the keys and kissed Jarred goodbye. The sun was just beginning to show from behind the clouds.I glanced back at the house and noticed the blinds and curtains were all being pulled closed.Maybe he was photosensitive or something.I really did need to ask him about that at some point.I mean, if we were ever going to have a long and happy marriage, we could not have these types of secrets.Well, some yes, who doesn’t have secrets? But secrets related to health are not things that should ever be kept from one another.***Later that night I walked out the door of the restaurant for the final time.I had stayed until closing because no one seemed to be able to stay late to let me have my last day early.By the time I was done with the closing duties I was so angry I could chew nails.I put up the vacuum cleaner and walked back into the dining room.“SURPRISE!!!”All of the staff had gathered around, including those that had the day off. There was a cake and everything. It had been great and I found my anger had melted away quickly. There had been a lot of hugging and tears making the rounds with my friends. There was a sense of finality about it all.I knew without knowing why that it would be a long time, if ever, before I saw any one of them again. But now I was done.I was walking down the sidewalk to get to the Jeep that was parked around the corner.Walking around the corner lightning lit up the sky.I looked up and saw that it might rain so I hurried toward the Jeep.As I was digging the keys out of my pocket I heard someone rushing up behind me.Before I could turn and confront my attacker I was enveloped in darkness and felt something sink into the side of my throat.***Jarred was standing on top of the office building across the street watching as Matthew left work for the final time.Glancing around the street he waited for what he knew would be coming. It had to, for without it, none of this could ever have been possible.Hearing something he looked down the street and saw someone rush up behind Matthew. He fought with every instinct and desire in his body to go down there and protect him.He had promised him that he would protect him, but if this didn’t happen, then there would be dire consequences. He watched as the vampire fed on Matthew.Matthew was starting a new life tonight. From the stories that had been told to him, he knew approximately what would be happening over the next two days.He knew he had to be the one to be here when Matthew recovered.Seeing something out of the corner of his eye, Jarred turned and looked across to the other building. There was a man hunched down with an assault rifle and it was trained down on where Matthew was.Suddenly, a shot rang out, and Jarred hastily returned his attention to the scene below.A flash of lightning lit up the area and the vampire leapt up suddenly reaching behind him to pull something from his neck.He glanced at it and turned to look up.In that very impossible instant, Jarred drew in a sharp breath. It couldn’t be! There was no possible way that what he was seeing was possible! The vampire turned from looking at the man whom had shot him to Jarred, and his mouth dropped open in surprise. With his sharp vampiric vision Jarred saw a drop of blood fall into Matthew’s open and shocked lips.“Jarred?” Jarred heard his name come from the vampire’s lips.He nodded, turning to the shooter on the opposite rooftop.Somehow in all the confusion he had vanished.Looking down he saw that the vampire had also vanished.Shadowy figures rose out from the ground and slowly enveloped a now screaming Matty.Jarred had to resist jumping down to help him. That was not how transformations happened. They were painless and most forgot the entire experience except for the memory of shadows. He would see Matthew again shortly though.Quickly wrapping himself in shadows, Jarred stepped into the shadows and into his house to wait.***The vampire stepped into the shadows quickly to avoid having to deal with Jarred at that moment. In moments he found himself back with his soldiers. So he wouldn’t have to think about it at that very moment, he busied himself quickly. He had stepped out of the shadows into a large warehouse on the waterfront near the river. There were two humans standing there in full military gear, loaded down with guns, knives, machetes and spare ammo. They each had a small hard metal carrying case about the size of a medium sized paperback book strapped to their waists. In those cases were waterproof matches, vials of animal blood and small spray misters full of animal blood that they could quickly spray on exposed skin.It was diluted down a lot, but it was still enough to get the job done. There were only two weaknesses that a vampire had; the blood of animals which was toxic to them, and sunlight. Now, sunlight, unlike in most stories, did not flat out kill a vampire. However, it would severely weaken a vampire and eventually kill them if they did not escape into the shadows to regenerate.Animal blood was also not a substitute for feeding either because unfortunately it was toxic to them. They could also, and usually did, eat and drink human food and drinks, though it did nothing for them, because a vampire only gained strength and nourishment from human blood.Once becoming a vampire, you did not forget what it was like to be human and still in fact enjoyed a great deal of what the human world had to offer.Blood had to be taken in every day, and in order for the male vampires to have sexual contact, they needed that blood for very obvious reasons. They did however also enjoy a great deal more than normal humans. They had strength which was far superior, as well as vastly increased speed, and all five of their senses were increased in potency and ability far more than any human could ever hope to enjoy.Vampires cannot fly or turn into other creatures. They could however travel almost instantaneously by using the shadows.Well, there was one who could do things other vampires could not and he was that one
